As November begins, the church calendar invites us to pause for All Saints’ Day — a time to give thanks for all those who have gone before us in faith. It’s not just about famous names from history; it’s also about the quiet, faithful people who’ve shaped our lives — the “everyday saints” who have loved, served, and inspired us.

When we think of saints, we might picture stained glass windows or grand stories of sacrifice. But the truth is, saints are often ordinary people who lived out their faith in simple, consistent ways. They showed kindness when it wasn’t easy, stood for what was right, and shared God’s love through their actions.

Each of us probably knows someone like that — a parent, friend, teacher, or church member whose life reflected something of God’s light. All Saints’ Day is our moment to remember them with gratitude and to thank God for the example they set.

At Edge Lane & Clayton Methodist, we also celebrate the saints among us today — those who care for others, lead worship, teach our young people, and help the church run quietly behind the scenes. Together, they show that faith is alive and active in our community.

One of our favourite hymns for this season, “For All the Saints Who from Their Labours Rest,” reminds us that we’re all part of one great family — past, present, and future — joined together in God’s love.

So, as we light candles, sing, and remember, let’s give thanks for the saints who’ve shaped our journey — and let’s pray that we, too, might live lives that shine with that same love.

Who are the saints you’re thankful for today?
